A May 14th - 20th 1907 USDA Pomological watercolor by Deborah Griscom Passmore of a cluster of fat carob pods with some carob leaves. In the lower left hand is the name "P. G. Western", the species name "Ceratonia siliqua" and the location where it's from: "Miami, Dade Co., Fla." The pods are on the short side, but thick with fruit pulp inside. The cluster was picked as it was getting more brown, but a couple months from full ripeness so while the ones in front are mostly brown, green appears at the tops of pods and even more so on the pods in back.

whose idea was it to use all these different font colours with drop shadows? why do so many headings have these green backgrounds that stretch across the whole page? how are graphs still broken with no fallback (even a static image) since april 2023? what's with all the gaps in the page?

Oh no. NIH is reportedly capping the "overhead" paid on research grants to 15% of direct costs, which would represent a 60-80% reduction for most grant recipients. I'd expect NSF and other funding agencies may likely follow suit.

Why is this bad? Overhead on grants is what funds most of the infrastructure - office space, administrative staff, utilities, etc - at research universities. Without it, they simply can't operate.

You remember #Apple scanning all images on your #mobile device? If you have an #Android #phone, a new app that doesn't appear in your menu has been automatically and silently installed (or soon will be) by #Google. It is called #AndroidSystemSafetyCore and does exactly the same - scan all images on your device as well as all incoming ones (via messaging). The new spin is that it does so "to protect your #privacy". You can uninstall this app safely via System -> Apps.

Back when I'd use a potato computer, often the presence of any launchers would be the difference between usable and unplayable. So even besides the aspect of preservation, this sight is extremely hurtful. 😔

I like it, but I'd split them into 3 different optional animations to be chosen.
Option 1: segment from 0-10 seconds + ending
Option 2: segment from 10-17 seconds + ending
Option 3: segment from 17 -28 seconds + ending

All three options could have the same cool ending, from the segment 28-33 seconds.

Currently only the Apple account holder can access data stored in this way - the tech giant itself cannot view it.
