This July I will be building a temporary art pavilion in Wicklow, Ireland. It will celebrate the folk traditions and technologies of the plant known in the Irish language as aiteann (aka gorse/furze/whin).

I will be building the pavilion from the wood and thorny leaves of the plant. Aiteann was once used in thatch along with other materials like straw and willow. I have been learning the process from a thatcher named Anthony.

I spent this evening painting gorse thorns with tempera paint made with the ashes of burned drawings of gorse bushes that were drawn in charcoal made from gorse branches.

Got that?

Two days left to apply to be part of AMRO 2026 (Art Meets Radical Openness), a wonderful festival in Linz, Austria, that deepens thinking around critical technologies and art.

It is one of the best events I have attended, and only happens once every 2 years. This year's theme is 'Becoming Unreadable'.

After 15 months of hard work, my dad has finished this impressive model of Minas Tirith! It is 1.4 m high and entirely hand-made out of wood. One of the most time-consuming parts was manually engraving the bricks on all walls and buildings, but this was key to properly convey the huge size of the city. Everything was painted by hand, adding some wear and tear. For a behind-the-scenes look at how he built this check out this video: youtube.com/watch?v=Z1Ywlc8ojj…

This caught my eye from Lean In:

“Women get put on a timeline they never asked for:

Too young → ‘You wouldn’t understand.’

Too old → ‘No one wants to hear that now.’

But here’s the truth: There’s no wrong age to be powerful, compelling, or taken seriously — there’s only a wrong lens.

To anyone who’s ever felt ‘past their moment” — this is your moment.’”
