You can't buy or sell #sustainability. There are no sustainable products, only sustainable processes and behaviours. Sustainability cannot be achieved by technology alone, because the main reason all of this nonsense we call normal life is actually unsustainable is that we want the economy to keep growing. The economy has already become too large for the planet and needs to shrink by more than half if we don't want to collapse completely. As long as capitalism exists, sustainability is absolutely impossible. Capitalism is going down one way or another, nobody can save it no matter how much they try, but if we manage to take it down fast enough, the complete collapse of the Industrial Age might take another 150-300 years instead of 25-50. And our chances of Homo sapiens surviving the ongoing mass extinction would be much better if we stopped ruining the biosphere for money.

A team of scientists from the University of Bristol recently released research that pushed the date of our Last Universal Common Ancestor (LUCA) back to about 4.2 billion years ago.

This suggests that the life that is in each of us, and in each of the organisms that make up our very large extended family, runs in an unbroken chain backward for 4.2 billion years.

That’s a pretty considerable investment by the universe in every living thing.

Perhaps we should reflect on that a little more as we continue to muck around on this planet.

It might be time to start fitting in.

Decided to be more active here, so let me reintroduce myself! I'm a zooarchaeologist researching #Farming and #Food of the past. I study animal and plant remains 🐐🌾, apply biochemical analyses 🧪, and want to use this knowledge of the past to contribute to #Sustainability today 🚜

Meanwhile, in battery news...

Researchers at Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien) have developed an oxygen-ion battery with a storage capacity that doesn't decrease over time, leading to an extremely long lifespan compared to other batteries.

This battery can be produced without rare metals and could be used for in large energy storage systems, e.g., to store electrical energy from renewable sources.

Having a sustainable website is crucial to me: mine scores 100 on Ecograder.

I do care for the environment. Pointless data information that travels through the internet is not free, it has a carbon weight.

Every kilobyte saved correspond to an amount of CO2.

What do people achieve with that compulsion to add featured images that aren't theirs?
