The Companies Behind ICE
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has grown its network of private industry partners since the start of the second Trump administration to support its agents as they storm into cities and detain people they suspect of being undocumented immigrants.
Last year, the ICE agency obligated more money than ever to private contractors, and this year it’s on pace to easily top last year’s record. More than 600 companies have been working with Trump’s ICE, including businesses in nearly every state...
This list includes Palantir. One of Australia's largest supermarket chains Coles contracts Palantir to help them with information gathering on their customers and more.

I image the Claude agent would need LOTS of access to the host system/local PC with open 'Net access to accomplish this?
The functionality sounds useful but I worry about giving a semi-autonomous agent with potential back doors that much access to my PC/laptop.
Perhaps a separate clean PC or a virtual host would help contain this security problem?

Yes. Anyone, mentally ill / mistreated etc or not, can be dangerous to themself and others around them.

*Still* doesn't excuse treating her like a non-person.

Even if someone were completely 'bad', does that make them not human? Are their rights to be a person revoked?
If someone can feel any kind of pain, or have the same needs (food, water, organ maintenance in sleep, etc), then people in that world share stakes with that person.
People always need to cooperate, compromise, share, and make decisions. If nothing else, communication can always start from mutually understood context.
