Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa was stolen from the Louvre by museum employee Vincenzo Peruggia and was not recovered until two years later.
The theft and subsequent recovery in 1913 led to the publication of many cultural depictions such as the 1915 opera Mona Lisa, two early 1930s films (The Theft of the Mona Lisa and Arsène Lupin) and the song "Mona Lisa" recorded by Nat King Cole—one of the most successful songs of the 1950s.

Well, here is my painting "Apples at Dawn". The lighting today isn't great for photography in my house, but you get the gist. A friend of mine runs an organic fruit and vegetable shop, and I have painted this to go on the wall behind his cash register.

My art mentor mentioned that she was proud of me for doing 3/4 views of people's faces. Many artists do full profile. I looked through all my sketches and was surprised to find that my work was either face forward or 3/4. Not a single profile in the entire portfolio. So I thought, "Hey! I should try doing a full profile painting. I have done loads of work with animals. This is the first time I have focussed on doing human figures after all these years! This is just a little 8 X 6" canvas trial.
