Deforestation ‘roaring back’ despite 140-country vow to end destruction
Demand for beef, soy, palm oil and nickel hindering efforts to halt demolition by 2030, global report findsDamian Carrington (The Guardian)
"The bottom line is that, globally, deforestation has gotten worse, not better, since the beginning of the decade.
We’re only six years away from a critical global deadline to end deforestation, and forests continue to be chopped down, degraded, and set ablaze at alarming rates,”

A team of scientists from the University of Bristol recently released research that pushed the date of our Last Universal Common Ancestor (LUCA) back to about 4.2 billion years ago.
This suggests that the life that is in each of us, and in each of the organisms that make up our very large extended family, runs in an unbroken chain backward for 4.2 billion years.
That’s a pretty considerable investment by the universe in every living thing.
Perhaps we should reflect on that a little more as we continue to muck around on this planet.
It might be time to start fitting in.

A significant new study, using massive biodiversity datasets, shows that invasions by non-native plants set the stage for later invasions by non-native insects.
"nonnative plant introductions are a major driver of insect invasions, and that insect invasions lag behind plant invasions. In the near future, new insect invasions are estimated to increase by 35% worldwide based on recent nonnative plant introductions."
