Here's how to #FediBlock threads.net on #Mastodon 4.1.0 and above (I'm unsure about how to do this on other #Fediverse #servers, sorry:

FOR USERS:

1. Create a txt document
2. Type "threads.net" (without quote marks)
3. Save as "blocked_domains.csv"
4. On Mastodon, go to Preferences > Import and Export > Import.
5. For input type select "Domain blocking list".
6. Upload blocked_domains.csv.
7. Click "Merge" so threads.net is added to your block list. Do NOT click "Overwrite"!
8. Click "Upload"!

I think I found the domain name of #Threads, #Meta's new #Fedi-enabled service, also codenamed #Project92, #P92, and #Barcelona.

Looking up threads.net returns #Instagram's logo, the title "Barcelona" and "this page isn't available" (probably because it's not open yet).

there’s plenty to comment on: pointing out quite how evil #Meta is and has been for this world is worth saying again to remind any who may have forgotten or be tempted to play with fire for whatever reason.

It is also perhaps good that admins are clear on the devastation which some will inflict on the #Fediverse thru de federation if deals are done with Meta.

Waiting for Meta to make a move sounds like great strategy. For Meta.

We at tech.lgbt have long held the belief that corporation owned instances are a threat to the core of the Fediverse: freedom for users to be themselves and to be a part of their communities. The 2010s saw the loss of online freedom when the majority of the Web was consolidated into a few destinations, and Facebook entering here could lead us back to centralization. Furthermore, NDAs for server admins will constrain our sovereignty online by binding us legally from disrupting their business.

We are not products. We are people, and we do not welcome Facebook in this space.

People of the #fediverse, especially those creating various services, there are alternatives to HCAPTCHA when you ask people to create accounts or login. Despite HCAPTCHA's propaganda, HCAPTCHA is not truly accessible to #blind people. It requires us to give up our privacy if we choose the cookie option. The text alternative doesn't work most times. I just tried to sign up for a /kbin server at https://redit.buzz and wasted 30 mins on HCAPTCHA.

When did Instagram ever have thoughtful analysis in the comment section? Most of the comments I ever got on Instagram were 🔥emoji, and "Looking good!"

Meanwhile, here on the #Fediverse, we've had GIF comments for ages, and the reputation we have is that we're all overly-serious folks!

I understand preventing harassment and dealing with content that's illegal, but the #fediverse is part of the #openweb. should we also be policing the truth of what people put up on their own websites? Instances must have their own standards but a social web where it's hard to post unpopular perspectives and have the potential to reach a wide audience (via strict content policing and fediblocks) will be very bad for democracy.

The only two design choices available aren’t “funnel everyone to mastodon.social” or “present a list of thousands of servers.” The default button could automatically round-robin a large list of servers that are known to be run by good actors. This is a solved problem. The solution is not being used, in this case, because, clearly, mastodon.social does want to grow.

We need responsible people to STOP pushing only #Mastodon as this is not helping, just look at the SPAM currently spewing from this process. With this mess we are building a codebase and an instance that are "too big to fail" this is absurdly stupid and not needed.
