This was one of those trails that make me reconsider not really being a mountain-bike person. The only downside would be zipping past all the butterflies and such too quickly to really be jazzed about them. #california #nature

I hadn't really been over to the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe much. It turns out, it's good. Who'd've imagined! #nevada #nature

A little bit of soaring and formation flight for your Monday! #california #nature

A little tree doing its own thing on the coast. #california #nature

Snowy hills around Echo Lake. At least the skies stayed mostly blue. #california #nature

About 250M years ago, 90% of species on Earth died during the Permian extinction. All of that loss created a lot of vacant niches to fill.

And not long after, the first mammals, our ancestors, appeared.

Life on this pale blue dot will be resilient - whether we’re part of it or not. #science #nature #history

A few years back I got this photo of a honey bee in flight, returning to her hive.

Had to shoot a few hundred photos just to land this one.

"Raking Light", Drakensberg 2024. We had risen in the dark to make the short but steep walk up to this view point on our final morning of a 75km traverse of the berg, and were greeted to views with such depth and light of a wonderful quality. The winds were strong but nothing could distract from the immensity of our surroundings.

Corporate monopolies drive #landgrabbing for #palmoil. To give #indigenous peoples, animals and #nature a fighting chance, we must join together and resist. "Sustainable" palm oil is a lie. #Boycottpalmoil and #Boycott4Wildlife https://palmoildetectives.com/2022/11/20/land-grabbing-and-the-climate-crisis-are-strongly-linked-to-palm-oil/?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=Palm+Oil+Detectives&utm_campaign=publer via @palmoildetect

'Hanging On'

A beautiful, large ancient oak tree with some remnants of autumn colour on a cold, frosty winter's morning. I've got many images of this tree, but I hope one day to have a set of nearly identical images through the different seasons.

an evening walk at 2pm.

......and on that note, just a reminder that winter solstice is on Sat, 21 Dec 2024, 9:20 am

I thought I’d post something bright and colourful for my first post over here!

Been going on a lot of camera-less walks recently. On those, if I see something pretty, the phone has to suffice. Here's four shots from three walks (top and bottom left were taken today).

The incredible (and often overlooked) mountain landscape of the Isle of Harris, Scotland. This place is rugged and unvisited, partly because the beaches of the island steal away attention and partly because of its unforgiving character. Many of these areas are fairly unexplored in terms of photography and I'm excited to spend a bit more time doing just that over the coming years.

The film version of my image Alleviate. I took this frame while exploring the #PNW coasts of #Washington and the #olympicnationalpark area.

I loved the way the sunlight was highlighting the edges of all the moss on these Alder trees. A beautiful display of #nature

Misty day in the valley yesterday, but higher up, a dopamine rush of bright sun & mind-sharpening blue.

Bonus: the meteorological weirdness of fast-moving cloud hugging close to Fountains Fell; autumn grasses in tarnished golds; scattered flocks of sheep and plover; the local farmer on his buggy, old sheepdog riding pillion.

Headed back revived.

The European Space Agency's Euclid space telescope is assembling the largest 3D map of the universe ever made.

The first section is now complete. Take a look at what happens when you zoom in...
