The word “invasivore” is a portmanteau combining “invasive Species” with the Latin root “devorare” meaning to swallow (as in "herbivore" or “carnivore”). Thus, #invasivore = one who eats invasive species, those organisms that have been introduced around the world and cause massive environmental and economic damages.

Our website invasivore.org/ serves a buffet of knowledge about #invasivespecies. At the core of our approach are #recipes featuring invasive ingredients, but we also provide species profiles describing notorious invaders, harvesting tips, exposition and commentary on related topics, summaries of relevant #science and #research, and roundups (#InvasionBites!) of the latest #news and other media about invasive species.

We believe that #education and #awareness can decrease the impacts of invasions by controlling existing populations and preventing new introductions.

Hello, scholar social! Here's my #introduction

I'm here from the Ecology & Evolutionary Biology dept at the University of Toronto and the Palaeobiology dept at the Royal Ontario Museum.

I'm a PhD Candidate studying growth and life history in extant and extinct cats, using both observational data (collected by others) and data from the growth record preserved in bone (collected by me)! See below for what a fossil Smilodon bone looks like under the microscope 👀

I’m currently a postdoc in Marlene Behrmann’s lab at Carnegie Mellon. I’m broadly interested in understanding the #psychology and #neuroscience underlying the #development of cognitive abilities such as categorization.

Recently I’ve been exploring the broader biological network that may support may object categorization (e.g., doi.org/10.1016/j.tics.2022.09…) and the #computational processes that may support few-shot categorization in infancy (e.g., doi.org/10.7554/eLife.74943)

Hi, I'm Michelle and I got into #GameDev a couple of years ago in my mid-thirties after a lifetime of wondering how games actually worked. Turns out, it's complicated!

So far I've done the obligatory too-soon dive into a "dream game" that failed almost immediately due to lack of skill, and then dialled it back a bit to work on a few game jams instead.

Here's a screenshot from my latest jam entry, a tiny low poly hidden object game for the #RainbowJam 2022 which was my first time doing anything proper with 3d. Very proud!

Time for another #introduction for the newcomers 😀 I'm an astronomer and science communicator at the European Southern Observatory.

In my previous life I used to study how galaxies form and evolve. I also helped my peers get their data as a support astronomer at ESO's Paranal Observatory in Chile. I now work full time as Media Officer at ESO's HQ in Germany.
