It's a free open source self-hostable site for storing 3D models, especially 3D printing models. Accounts on Manyfold servers can now be followed from Mastodon etc.
404 Media's @jasonkoebler and ProPublica's @ben are discussing how the #fediverse helps #publishers in the latest episode of @mike's #DotSocial podcast. Highly recommended.
This struck me particularly:
Ben is making the case that the Fediverse is the means by which publishers can re-take the initiative with technology instead of simply having to live with whatever the platforms decide. That is powerful stuff!

Ive seen a lot of Threads account pushing for Bluesky and that is also a shit show "integration". It's safely to say that the #Fediverse is the best place to be so far.
The official Mastodon app (and most other Fediverse apps) do not collect any data about you.
When you sign up on a Fediverse server, it asks for the minimum amount of information (an email address and a password) and none of this info goes to the app or app makers.
This is in stark contrast to other social networks which seem to collect lots of personal info. See the attached image for a comparison of the privacy policies of various official social network apps.

Wenn ich in Friendica einen Fediverse Account z. B. über https://det.social/@Gennex suche ist er fast sofort da. Suche ich ihn aber über den Slug @gennex@det.social dann dauert es bisweilen ewig oder er findet gar nichts, selbst dann wenn der Account in meinen Kontakten ist. Wenn das mit der Suche nach dem Slug so schwierig ist, wäre es doch einfacher ihn vor der Suche intern in die entsprechende URL umzuwandeln damit es flott geht. Oder?

Wenn ich versuche direkt über einen Profillink ein Profil zu öffnen dauert das ewig:
Wenn ich eine Erwähnung wie z. B. in dem Fall @Nike Leonhard anklicke geht es recht flott, aber eben nur weil das Profil nicht inlay, sondern direkt auf dem betreffenden Server geöffnet wird.
Und wenn ich dann auf die Idee komme die URL dieses Profils, hier z. B. https://literatur.social/@Nike_Leonhard in die Suche einzugeben, habe ich das Profil innerhalb von zwei, drei Sekunden inlay vor mir.
Suche ich btw. direkt nach dem Profil, kann es sein das es gar nicht gefunden wird.
Woher kommt da der doch riesige zeitliche Unterschied?

It’s sad to not see more cooperation between #Mastodon / #Fediverse and #IndieWeb
The latter is focused on social semantics for the web and the former for social semantics for ActivityPub – when the two overlap they should coordinate – and articles are very much web pages and something the #IndieWeb knows best practices around
